Joshua Wolk

Senior Practitioner

“The work I've done with Josh has made my body feel ten years younger.”
– Tom Cocotos, Visual Artist

Education:
J.D. from Boston University, B.A. in Political Science from Amherst College

Movement Background:
6th degree black belt in Aikido, ordained instructor of ancient Japanese shinto exercise and meditation form

Certification:

Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner (CM)
Feldenkrais Guild of North America, 1994

About:
Josh became interested in Feldenkrais after realizing that his sessions in the Method were vastly improving his Aikido practice. After years of striving to embody a culturally foreign way of moving in a traditional Japanese apprenticeship, Josh was amazed when Feldenkrais helped him discover that his most deeply embedded movement habits could be changed. It was then that he began a decades-long study of neuroplasticity and its transformative potential. Josh's capacity to effect so much change in people rests on his study, practical applications, and deep understanding of bio-mechanics. Through confident yet gentle touch, he communicates with a nervous system in a way that inspires that nervous system to reorganize for the better.

Motivation:

Josh says, “The Feldenkrais Method has taught me how to make my most difficult struggles into my most powerful assets. I wouldn't be capable of helping others if I didn't know what it was to struggle with pain, habit, and the seemingly impossible task of changing our most deeply rooted tendencies.”

Lauren Wolk

Senior Practitioner

“After exploring every other kind of bodywork, I finally had a breakthrough at the hands of Lauren Wolk and Feldenkrias.”
– Nerissa Neilds, Professional Musician

Education:
M.A. from the Bard Center for Curatorial Studies, B.A. in Art History and Sociology from Mount Holyoke College

Movement background:
Yoga, Running

Certification:
Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner (CM)
Feldenkrais Guild of North America, 2013

About:
In 2002 Lauren discovered that Feldenkrais work dramatically improved not just the state of her body, but the state of her mind. She has been an avid student of the method and its transformative power ever since. Lauren is known for helping her clients discover the connection between the way they move and the way they behave more generally. Her unique gift is the ability to gently help others honestly encounter the reality of the idiosyncratic person they truly are, and thereby find a freedom in movement and a comfort in being themselves that they didn't know was possible.

Motivation:
Lauren says, “Many people sense intuitively that their physical pains and problems relate to more than just mechanical problems with the body. I'm most satisfied when I can help someone realize that they can move - and therefore behave and experience - differently. I haven't encountered another therapeutic modality that allows for this much empowerment.”
